Jim Hunt, Chair

Jim Hunt, of Port Hope, has extensive experience as both a lawyer and lecturer. Mr. Hunt has been a partner with Sherwood, Hunt LLP, Barristers and Solicitors (since 1986), and instructor at both Osgoode Hall Law Society of Upper Canada (1992 – 2004) and George Brown College (1988 – 1993).
He has a wide range of experience in environmental matters, having worked with the Ontario Water Resources Commission and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Mr. Hunt is a Certified Engineering Technician, has a BA in Geography from the University of Western Ontario, and a law degree and MBA from Dalhousie University.
Jim served as a Water Works Commissioner and Councilor for the Town of Port Hope (1995 – 1997) and sat on its Planning Advisory Committee. In 2000, Jim provided legal services to a Ministry of the Environment representative at the Walkerton Inquiry.
Dave Golem - Municipal Representative
Dave hails from Gilmour, where he is the Reeve of Limerick Township. He retired to the Township after years of working in the Property and Commercial Insurance industry. Dave has many years experience as the president of the Steenburg Lake Community Association and the Treasurer and founding Director of the North Hastings Family Health Team.
Dave Burton - Municipal Respresentative
Bruce Craig - Municipal Representative
Bruce is a graduate of Queen’s University with a BSc in Engineering. He has 29 years of experience in the utility industry. He is currently President of Lakefront Utilities which includes both electricity, water and fibre optic communication utilities. Bruce has also managed public utilities in both Cambellford and Ingersoll. Bruce has been involved with well systems in Ingersoll, Colborne and Grafton and surface water systems in Cobourg and Campbellford.
Gerald McGregor - Municipal Representative
Gerald has a long history of working with municipal issues, and is currently a municipal councillor for the City of Kawartha Lakes. Gerald also has a solid background in dealing with environmental issues. He has been a municipal representative on many municipal committees including the Victoria County Groundwater Study, Water Task Force, Waste Management Force, Environment Advisory Committee, Agriculture Advisory Committee, Public Works, and Adjustment and Planning Committee.
Rosemary Kelleher-MacLennan - Municipal Representative
Rosemary is a councillor and past Public Utilities Commissioner for the Municipality of Trent Hills. She was appointed to the Ontario Municipal Water Association in 1998, served as Chair in 2005 and has recently been appointed as Co-Chair of the OWWA/OMWA Joint Executive Committee. Rosemary comes from an agricultural background, is a real estate broker in her home town of Campbellford and has been quite active on a number of boards, associations and committees throughout the years.
Mary Smith
- Municipal Representative
Mary has lived in Lakefield for over 30 years and has been involved in municipal politics since 1998. She is currently the Deputy Reeve for the Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield and also serves on Peterborough County council and the Peterborough Lakefield Police Services Board. Mary believes it is a privilege to be involved in politics, enjoying the many people she meets and the opportunities to learn about the local community.
Richard Straka - Municipal Representative
Richard has worked for the Planning Division of the City of Peterborough for 20 years. He has also worked as a Resource Evaluator in Alberta and as a Lake Planner in Northern Ontario. He offers his experience as a Planner and Resource Evaluator to ensure careful consideration is afforded to decisions affecting Source Protection.
Bev Spencer - Agricultural Representative
Beverley has lived and worked on a successful dairy operation for the past 30 years and is also a Registered Practical Nurse. Beverley has been a 4-H Club leader, and past president of the Hastings County Junior Women’s Institute. The future of family farming is very important to Beverley and her family as her son is the 6th generation on the farm.
Edgar Cornish - Agriculture Representative
Edgar is a full time farmer from Indian River with 43 years of experience in farm management, animal husbandry, and crop production. He has been president of many agricultural groups including the Peterborough County Soil and Crop Improvement Association and the Peterborough Federation of Agriculture. Edgar has completed several on-farm projects to protect ground and surface water and is looking forward to develop fair, affordable ways to keep our drinking water safe.
Glenn Milne
- Agricultural Representative
Glenn is a dairy farm operator where he uses both conventional and organic practices. He recently graduated from the Advanced Agricultural Leadership Program doing special study into the delivery of environmental programs in Ontario. It was while on tour in New Zealand and Australia where he witnessed the effects of regulation, allocation, and ownership of water. Glenn believes that a co-operative effort of stewardship of our greatest natural resource is the best way to protect it for the future.
Kerry Doughty - Aggregate/Mining Representative
Kerry has been employed in the aggregate business for over 30 years. He is co-owner and General Manager of Doughty Aggregates Limited, based out of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield Township. Kerry is eager to convey an understanding of the way the aggregate industry interacts with water resources.
Monica Berdin - Recreation/Tourism Representative
Monica has been involved in the environmental movement since the 1970s with her work for Pollution Probe based out of Toronto. She is currently involved in a grass roots environmental movement surrounding the Kawartha Lakes. Monica and her husband own a small waterfront resort in Bobcaygeon where water quality is a major concern for her.
Dave Workman - Industry Representative
Dave is a graduate of the University of Waterloo with a B.Sc. in Honours Applied Earth Sciences. He has detailed knowledge of the watersheds within the Trent Conservation Coalition Region as a result of completing numerous hydrogeologic and geotechnical investigations in the past. Dave is currently an environmental hydrogeologist with Cameco Corporation and is a professional geoscientist (P.Geo.). He believes that clean drinking water is a precious resource that must be protected.
Bob Lake - Economic Development Representative
Bob was born and raised in the Kawartha region where he has sat on numerous boards, associations, committees, and charitable organizations. Most of his career was working with Ontario Hydro and Peterborough Utilities where he served as head of the Water/Electricity/Telecommunications Utility. Bob now operates a 193 acre farm along with his wife just outside of Peterborough.
Alix Taylor - Environmental Non Government Representative
Terry Rees - Waterfront Landowner Representative
Terry is currently the Executive Director of the Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations. He has been a lifelong seasonal waterfront resident in Havelock-Belmont-Methuen where he has been an active volunteer on the local Lake Association. He has worked in the private Oil and Gas, and Mining sectors, and has also been involved with non-profit management. Terry sits on the Peterborough Stewardship Council, and sits on numerous provincial committees related to water and private property issues.
Wayne Stiver - Drinking Water Expert Representative
Wayne is an experienced civil engineer working in the municipal drinking water sector for more than 25 years. He manages the municipal water system in the City of Peterborough and oversees the Lakefield water and wastewater operations. Wayne has served on the Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA) for years and has recently been appointed as Co-Chair of the OWWA/OWMA Joint Executive Committee.
Bill Cornfield - Drinking Water Expert Representative
Bill has been a resident on Horseshoe Lake, located in the upper reaches of the Trent watershed, since 1970. He owns and operates a consulting business, is a registered professional engineer, and has extensive local and international experience in water and wastewater management. Bill is Vice Chair of the Coalition for Equitable Water Flow – Haliburton Sector TSW. He brings his technical skills and experience in formulating and structuring practical solutions to water related issues to the Source Protection Committee.
Alanna Boulton - Trent Severn Waterway Representative
Alanna is the acting Trenton Sector Manager at the Trent-Severn Waterway. She has been working for the federal waterway for over 10 years where she has gained valuable knowledge of the Trent and Severn River basins, which cover more than 18,000 square kilometers. She resides in Peterborough where she is currently completing her Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Guelph.
Bobbie Drew - Public Rural Representative
Bobbie is currently in her second term on the Scugog Township Council and is the Vice Chair of the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority. Bobbie spent most of her life in Port Perry along the shores of Lake Scugog. She has recently retired from a long history in the educational field where she started as a volunteer outdoor educator and moved on to become Trustee with the Durham District School Board and finally into the classroom.
Matt Taft - Public Urban Representative
Matt was born and raised in the Trenton area where he gained a strong commitment to community development. His time at Sir Sandford Fleming College in Lindsay Ontario has strengthened his knowledge and hands-on technical experience in the environmental field.
Mae Whetung - Curve Lake First Nation Representative
Mae Whetung is a member of the Curve Lake First Nation and resides in Curve Lake. She is an active member of the Rights and Resources Committee, addressing environmental concerns for the community. She has been involved with a number of Boards, committees and associations over a span of many years. Her major past time is First Nations historical and genealogical research.
Pam Crowe - Alderville First Nation Representative
Pamela has been recently elected as a councillor for the Alderville First Nation with a strong role in environmental issues. She has lived on the First Nation for most of her life and has spent 30 years working for the First Nation Administrative office as Manager of the Housing and Lands Program which involved community based environmental issues. Pamela currently is a part owner of a local restaurant and gas station.
