The Kawartha-Haliburton Source Protection Area is approximately 5,500 sq km fringing on Algonquin Park in the north and the Greater Toronto Area in the south with a population of about 84,000 people. The largest settlements include Lindsay, Port Perry, Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls and Minden. The main industries in the Source Protection Area are tourism, recreation, mining, forestry, agriculture, and urban development.

There are 16 municipal well systems and six municipal surface water supplies.
